Modern Age Ophelia
Modern Age Ophelia is a fusion of contemporary jazz, folk, pop, and groove styles mixed with impressionistic lyrics, spoken word poetry, and improvisation. The work explores a landscape of characters and compositional techniques. The peculiar power of superstition and dreamlike reality is a theme throughout the songs, connecting
to the Icelandic pagan heritage.
The atmosphere is feminine and vulnerable, and Anna sings with her ethereal voice. The title relates to questions of what female truths in the past and present were and are dismissed as illogical and insane, as if being stuck in a wasteland somewhere in the in between, without the vocabulary to describe one’s truth and lived experiences, or speaking covertly through symbolism.
“If you think nobody makes records like those first four Joni Mitchell albums anymore, listen here, and think again.” David Fricke
